Will's Theory about the War on Terror

I have really tried to kept an open mind and have tried to take a look at this with clarity and a crystal sense of understanding.

Let's start at the beginning...at least for me. Up until the day that I saw a pile of rubble laying on the ground where two great building use to stand, I had not a clue or interest about the Middle East.

After 9/11 I kept asking myself, why do people hate us so much that they would commit such a horrific act? I just could not understand the hatred. So I was glued to the news - CNN, Fox, AP, Talk Radio, news groups and any other media I could find news and information about these terrorists. I talked with friends and people on the net about it. I collected endless information and opinions. I was truly open to all viewpoints and explanations because I truly wanted to understand the minds at work here.

Through all of my research and hearing endless opinions from many people, I have come up with a theory that explains all of this.

First, we need to ask the question - Why do they hate us so much and why is there all of this terrorism? I can answer this question in one word. Israel. Not that Israel is at fault, but that is the center of the problem.

Jews, Christians and Muslims all believe that this is their holy land. It's been the most battled land in the world for thousands of years. Countless wars have been fought for this land.

After WWII and the militaristic domination of the Allies, we had the power to give the land now known as Israel to the Jews. We booted the Palestinians out and put the Jews in. We have kept them in with our superior militaristic forces and technologies. In doing so, we have created a few enemies in the Muslim world.

So what is the answer to World Peace that everyone seems to strive for? I clearly only see two options to that question. Actually there are 3 options, but option 3 is not a realistic possibility, but if you could erase all religion from the world, you would have relative world peace.

Option one would probably be the easiest and cost the least amount of life, but it's an option that is NEVER going to happen. I absolutely don't agree with this option, but keeping an open mind to this issue, this is one option I could foresee.

Option one - Do what the terrorists want to do and boot the Jews out of the land currently known as Israel and give it back to the Palestinians, either by annihilating them or relocating them elsewhere. Obviously both of those means would be catastrophic. Annihilating them would make us (world powers) just as evil as the Nazi's and the Jew's would never just leave without a massive nuclear war. For the sake of argument, even if this did happen, would we have world peace? The answer is no.

So what is the second option? It's not an easy answer. There are many complications I need to go over. The simple answer is to give everyone in the world freedom and liberty which will in turn make peace. Evil tyrants need to be relieved of their duties.

U.S. culture has proven that Christians, Jews, Muslims, Atheists or whatever religion can live in relative peace and harmony together.

The problem is a lot of the Muslim governments in the Middle East are controlled by ruthless and corrupt dictators. These governments have created a bread of Muslims that are not within the core beliefs of the Koran. These people see Jews, Christians or any non-Muslim as an infidel that needs to die.

How do you fix this? It's not an easy endeavor, but the first step is to remove these tyrannical governments and give the people freedom.

Once you have democracies in place and the people have freedom, liberty, free thought, freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the right to the pursuit of happiness, you will hopefully root out these Muslim extremists over time.

After that is achieved, you might be able to strike a deal with the Muslim nations and Israel. Perhaps they can one day all share the sacred land together. But until the people that believe all others that don't believe as they do must die, this is not a possibility.

I have an analogy that might help put this in perspective.

Go back to the days when the U.S. had slavery. A man had an idea that slavery should not exist anymore in the U.S., a republican even. He was the sixteenth President of the U.S. and his name was Abraham Lincoln. When he proposed this idea of no slavery, his approval ratings dropped to the lowest ever. His critics complained that the southern economy would be wrecked among many other arguments. Lincoln persevered forward with his plan despite unpopular opinion and the world is a better place for it now.

The Civil War began on April 12, 1861.

On July 4th 1861 - Lincoln, in a speech to Congress, states the war is..."a People's contest... a struggle for maintaining in the world, that form, and substance of government, whose leading object is, to elevate the condition of men..."

All said, slavery is now a thing of the past in the U.S. It's taken a long time for mass racism and discrimination to be weeded out. To this very day, racism still exists, but to a tiny fraction of what it once use to be.

I see George Bush in the same eyes that I saw Lincoln back then. George Bush has an idea to democratize the Middle East and bring those people freedom, liberty and free will. In doing so, that will weed out this Muslim extremism, at least for the most part. In doing so, he is going to have to endure some very formidable enemies. Like Lincoln, from all sides.

So where was the best place to start this endeavor? Afghanistan of course. But the endeavor does not end there; we need to democratize all Middle East nations. Iraq is the second best nation to continue this endeavor, mainly because of it's strategic location.

WMD's was a great excuse to end Saddam's ruthless terror. Did Bush lie about WMD's? I from the bottom of my heart, I don't believe he did. Bush, Clinton, Kerry, the U.N. and just about everyone in the world thought that the intelligence coming out of Iraq about WMD's was correct. We had every reason to believe they had them. Saddam had used them in the past not only on other but on his own people. For over 10 years; Saddam would not let U.N. inspectors in to find out the truth and they broke U.N. resolution one after the other.

Liberals love to point out that Iraq is a war that has been conducted with massive mistakes and error. I'm not going to say that there have not been errors or that not everything has gone as planed, but if you look at what we have achieved, I think it's a great success.

We have uprooted a ruthless corrupt dictator that tortured, raped and killed his own citizens. Iraq is littered with mass graves! Iraq is hands down a better place with him gone, as is the world at large.

Look how long it took us to get Germany under control after WWII. We still have not reached that timeline. We have only lost a little over 1000 soldiers in this war on Iraq. Most have been after the war from terrorist attacks. In the Normandy campaign alone in WWII 210,000 allies died and 450,000 Germans died.

I really think what the terrorists started on 9/11 will one day be rectified by they U.S. lead coalition. It may take 50 to 100 years, but it's a problem that has been around for thousands of years. I believe the key to peace is democracy, freedom and liberty. Bush is pushing this effort forward and going around the corrupt in the U.N.

I truly believe that one day in history, President Bush will be looked back on favorably as Lincoln is today.

This is my little theory. Perhaps it's off beat and completely wrong, but it's the way I see the current War on Terror. Tough and hard decisions need to be made. Mistakes are absolutely going to be made. Things are not going to go as planned. We need a President who can stand behind his decisions with conviction and belief that we are doing the right thing for World Peace and the good of humanity at large. I believe that Bush is the right choice for this Job.
