Oh the joy of politics! Even though I love politics and have strong opinions on subjects, I've found it hard to find a political camp to call home. My views very widely and my opinions are derived using three words: Freedom, Liberty and PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect). Listed below are some of the issues I feel are important. Abortion: Pro-Choice. I believe if a woman wants to have an abortion, she should have the right to do it. I don't however believe the government should pay for it. For me, this issue revolves around the question of when life begins. If it could be proved definitively that life begins at conception, then I would be pro-life. There are just to many ways to determine that answer. You can argue life begins using three methods; science, religion or philosophy. That time line could very anywhere from before conception, at conception or after conception. For now, I'll stick with pro-choice. Gun Control: This means using two hands right? I'm all for gun ownership and the 2nd Amendment. I believe that an armed public is the first defense at keeping a government from being an out of control one. Not only that, you can be a lot more persuasive with a kind word and a gun than you can with just a kind word. hehe
Marijuana Legalization: I say legalize it. I personally don't smoke it, but I do love the smell of it. I think all drugs should be legalized. With the profits the government could make from drug tax revenue, they could open all kinds of drug rehabs and awareness programs. Keeping it illegal just makes people want to do it more and out of control. Our prisons are also so over crowded and many of those people in prison were only caught smoking pot. That's just lame! I say free that room for people that molest children or murder people. Not only that, legalizing it would help with our border problems as well. Gay Marriage: To me, this issue is all about respect and tolerance. People on both sides of this issue lack both. On the one side, I see marriage as a sacred union between a man and a woman and is a religious ceremony. The term marriage should be reserved for religious people. On the other side, I think that gay couples should have the same rights as a straight couple. That most importantly includes tax benefits and hospital visitation rights. Gays should respect religious people and the term marriage. Religious people should respect the rights of gays. I say let gay couples get a union and not make a religious deal out of it. It's really quite simple. War on Terror: Basically, I believe all people in the world have a fundamental and inalienable right to live free which means the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Freedom loving people do not like war, it's always used as a last resort. Something needs to be done about the problems in the Middle East. Tyrants have created hatred and despair for far to long. Their problems breached our boards on 9/11 which I feel now makes it our problem. The solution? I say spread freedom and liberty to the Middle East and peace will follow. Do nothing and the problem is only going to get worse resulting in not thousands of people being killed but millions loosing their lives. Role of the Government: I believe the government should serve three primary roles. First and foremost, my government should protect me from foreign and domestic threats, so it should have a strong military and a police force. Second, the government should build roads, bridges, schools, and courts. Third, deliver my mail and that's it!
